Information for Agencies
Many agencies refer young people to South Ayrshire Nighstop. We ask that referring agencies receive training from our staff regarding our policies and procedures. This enables us to be sure that referral agencies carry out a thorough risk assessment of any young people before contacting our volunteers. Your agency should have the referral agency pack from us. After each referral agency has carried out the training a service level agreement will be singed by Nightstop and the agency underlining both parties’ responsibilities. We currently have 4 designated people at 4 different referral agencies. Designated people receive updates from ourselves and process expense claims. What South Ayrshire Nightstop can be …
- A temporary safe environment for a young person between 16 and 25
- A breathing space to allow a young person to find support and move towards finding more permanent accommodation.
- An alternative short-term solution for some young people when other options are inappropriate or not available
- Appropriate to the needs of all young people
- A permanent solution
- It is not suitable for young people who at the time of referral are under the influence of alcohol, drugs or solvents; known to have committed serious violent or sexual crimes; have a physical or mental health problem which is uncontrolled.
- We can accept couples but they would be placed in different houses.
- We cannot accept young people who are accompanied by a child or children under 16.
- It is not suitable for young people with serious criminal records or who have a serious physical or metal health issues which are uncontrolled
After a Nightstop … what happens next?
Nightstop will have asked the referral agency where the young person needs to go the next day. If the young person is coming back to the agency Nightstop will contact the agency and feedback their stay at Nightstop and if the young person turned up and if the stay went well.Nightstop will also liaise with you and the young person regarding appointments made to seek appropriate longer term accommodation. If the young person is not returning to yourselves in the morning you may suggest where they need to go otherwise we will send the young person to the most appropriate place/agency to seek longer term accommodation.
If all attempts to find accommodation fail then you may re-refer the young person back to Nightstop. If we have a bed the process begins again.
