Being a Host
Hosts have a spare bedroom that a young person can use for one night. They provide the young person with a safe and secure environment, an evening meal, washing facilities, breakfast, and a chance to talk, or a space in which to reflect. A host will offer accommodation as often or as little as their circumstances permit. We invite applications from single people, couples and families to be hosts. South Ayrshire Nightstop provides toiletries, first aid kit and some clothes for the hosts to offer to the young people.
Host are provided with a range of information to give to young people and will direct young people back to an agency that can help them look for longer term accommodation if required. Hosts will also provide bus fare or a car journey to the agency working on behalf of the young person. Host volunteers can also access support from Nightstop via the 24hr OnCall service.
Hosts vary in age from their 20’s to 70’s and anybody can be a host. Hosts can choose to allow males or females to stay and stipulate the oldest age they are willing to accommodate. (All Nightstoppers must be 16 – 25 years old)
Host are really appreciated by the young people who use our scheme. Please see Young Peoples page for some comments we have left by Young People. All the young people who use our service will be referred to Nightstop via an identified referral agency that must adhere to Nightstops referral procedures. Theses procedures are in place to safe guard our Hosts and the young people. Nightstop will not be appropriate for all young people. Please see more information on our Information for Agencies page.
